Question 1: Provide one real-life example of the Input-Process-Output (IPO) cycle and explain each stage.
Answer: A computer follows the IPO cycle—data is entered (input), it is processed to create meaningful information, and then the result is shown (output).
Example: Paying a bill at a supermarket using a billing computer.
Input: The cashier scans the items. This is data being given to the computer using input devices such as a keyboard, mouse or scanner.
Process: The computer uses the CPU to process the data, add prices and prepare the final bill amount.
Output: The computer shows the total amount on the monitor and may print the bill using a printer.
Question 2: Imagine you are designing a keyboard. What special features would you include?
Answer:
1. Bigger keys for children so typing becomes easier and more comfortable.
2. A colourful design so learners can quickly recognise key groups.
3. Clearly marked special keys like Enter and Spacebar, because special keys are used to perform specific tasks.
Question 3: Why is the operating system considered the most essential system software?
Answer: System software is the core program that enables a computer to function and perform essential operations. A computer cannot operate without it.
Question 4: How would you explain the importance of hardware and software working together in a computer system?
Answer: A computer system works because it has different parts that work together using two main components: hardware and software. Hardware includes the physical parts (such as CPU, keyboard, monitor and mouse), while software provides the instructions to perform tasks. When both work together smoothly, the computer can take input, process it and show correct results.
