Sanctuary is to St. Mira's
what a flame is to a moth, the sun to
the sunflower and a breath of fresh
air to a drowning man. Sadhu T.L.
Vaswani, the enlightened founder of the School started the Mira
Educational Institutions with sole purpose of providing integral
education to students with special
emphasis on character building,
spiritual
unfolding, service (seva),
reverence for all life, respect for all
scriptures, religions and universal
brotherhood.He asked for a blend
of Scholarship with reverence,
humility, culture and physical
fitness(Shakti). |

The Sanctuary is the first period of the School.All the students of the School gather together and offer non sectarian, universal prayers to God, recite mantras and quotations culled from world scriptures. They sing prayers that revere the universal and fundamental aspects in every religion. Everyday some enlightening talk is given to the children. The topics chosen for such talks are graded according to the level of the students. Talks on simple values like truth and honesty ,anger and contentment,service and prayer etc., right up tocomplex ideas like the universal form of God,duality and non-duality,knower and the known,tha laws of nature,the law of karma etc.,are touched upon. Dada J. P. Vaswani,the present spiritual head of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission and an educationist 'par excellence'regularly addresses the students garbing profound truths and values in stories and parables.He speaks to the students with so much enthusiasm and zeal that all crave to hear more and more of his talks.The example of his simple,humble, saintly life has a deep impression on the students.Every word he speaks has great impact on them. Pictures of great philosophers from East and west and illustrated posters giving noble thoughts of great ones adorn the walls of the school and thus great values and ideals surround the students,which have a positive effect during their growing period. The motto that Sadhu Vaswani gave to the St. Mira's School was Simplicity and Service, Purity and Prayer.To this ideal the schools are ever true.students are taught that simple living and highthinking should be the driving force for every student. The end of knowledge,the students are taught, is not a gain in silver and gold,jobs and career, but in service.Tsrue knowledge establishes a living bond of sympathy with the suffering,the aged and infirm,with birds and animals. Purity is the Crown of Life so wrote Sadhu Vaswani. Students are told many stories of great men and women who remained true to the ideal of purity in daily life. Of Prayer, Sadhu Vaswani said,"Each one of us should be a light house,for prayers can bring miracles in daily life." The Sanctuary therefore, is what makes St. Mira's School unique. The school puts full effort to see that the students who leave the school are epitomes of the great ideals of humanity. |
